Do not buy palm oil products, Help preserve worlds best bio-diversity center’s and its wildlife.
We are responsible as Buddhists to know what our consumptions are and its consequences to others.
Though we may not spare enough time giving considerations to these, our actions make way for some species of our planet to go extinct.
Borneo and Sumatra are two of the most bio-diverse regions of the world, yet they are facing huge danger due to the palm oil industry today. The world today realizes the immoral deeds by consuming palm oil-based products and therefore a widespread call for boycotting such products. Not only considering Borneo elephants, endangered orangutan, and many other species but also the thick forests that bring rain to the area.
These two South-East Asian islands are extremely rich in life, containing around 20,000 flowering plant species, 3,000 tree species, 300,000 animal species and thousands more being discovered each year. Despite this amazing biodiversity and delicate web of species, an area the size of 300 football fields of rainforest is cleared each hour in Indonesia and Malaysia to make way for the production of one vegetable oil. That’s 6 football fields destroyed each minute.
This vegetable oil is called palm oil and is found in hundreds of everyday products, from baked goods and confectionery to cosmetics and cleaning agents many of which you buy in your weekly shopping. Please spare a little bit of time to check if you are buying any palm oil-based product that contributes to great destruction of forests and wildlife. If you do so, please make an attempt to stop consuming them. It will help save thousands of life species lost daily in Sumatra and Bornio. Live a responsible life. Love the environment.
